“Wood and Nails are still brand new on the scene. Having released their début EP The Night Before earlier this year, a short collection of songs that hark back to early 90′s Emo as well as punk bands such as Alkaline Trio; their live sound, for a band so recently formed, is already tight and the band seem remarkably at ease on stage. The songs are short, simple and more often than not, contain some great poppy hooks, opener The Night Before is littered with great vocal hooks ‘we’d sleep all day just to dream of the night before’, personal set highlight Bloodshot sounds terrific, with driving bass and drums, before turning into an almost post-grunge sound as it comes to an end. Front-man Paul Beaumont’s vocal delivery is confident and assured, he in fact has been playing a lot of these songs acoustically for the past year or so. And, while not the most talkative between songs, his band mates make up for this by providing plenty of crowd interaction. Look out for these guys in ”
“With so much punk history rooted in our fair isle, it’s a great feeling that some British bands are able to keep the spirit alive. While they may not be decked out in safety pins, bondage slacks, and soaped up mohawks, Birmingham newcomers Wood and Nails certainly capture the raw, working class vibe of British punk rock”
“The title track almost veers into post-grunge territory, a polished, radio-friendly anthem with a juggernaut riff and a lyric so emotionally-charged (“we’d sleep all day just to dream of the night before”) you could envision half of Propaganda cheering along. Musically, it’s reminiscent of Gin Blossoms or Static Prevails-era Jimmy Eat World, and is certainly the EP’s highlight.”
“We’d sleep all day just to dream of the night before Until I’m old and grey I know that we’ll dream about it more It’s pretty much gospel, my affection for nostalgia. I shout it from the mountaintop that is my keyboard in frequent bursts. It’s how I’m wired: to not let the beautiful moments fade away. And so I find a kindred connection to this fantastic song, “The Night Before,” from the Birmingham, England band Wood And Nails. Musically, it’s a raw snap of indie-punk. The trio (Paul Beaumont, Steven Beaumont, and Steven Cook) are incredibly tight. The bass and drums pace the song with grace and taut precision, while electric lead bits shimmer through the speakers. It’s a delight.”
