The authenticity of the music was evident from the moment the band started playing — nobody could have guessed every band member except for Orlofsky was never trained in the genre. Saudade brings precision and vigor to a local scene that receives far less attention than it deserves. “Tamarind Institute announces the opening of Afro: Black Identity in America and Brazil, a group exhibition highlighting work by three Afro Brazilian artists and three African American artists who have been invited to create lithographs exploring the complexities of racial identity in Brazil and the United States. The exhibition, in the Tamarind Gallery June 1 through August 24, will showcase work by Brazilian artists Rosana Paulino, Tiago Gualberto, and Sidney Amaral and American artists Alison Saar, Willie Cole, and Toyin Odutola. The exhibition is free and open to the public, Monday - Friday, 9-5; and the public is invited to a closing reception on August 24, from 5-7. Music by Saudade”
