Project 62 / Press

“With one release under their collective belts, the Toowoomba six are back with a second album more than worthy of their fine beards. Produced by Anthony Lycenko, whose name graces the liner notes of David Bowie, Busby Marou and Giants of Science, Project 62 have captured a sound unlike the vast majority of music released today. Reminiscent of Brad Rodgers from Crash Test Dummies, Jason Lawler’s rich baritone rumbles out of the speakers, down your spine and rests somewhere around your stomach, setting up shop to hold your attention from album’s open to close. His deep, rich voice has elements of raspy bitterness when called for, leaving the listener feeling warm and safe, as if wrapped in a thick, old coat. Whether it is the broodiness of The National, the darkness of Johnny Cash or the mania of Nick Cave, the many influences on this record leave a strange sense of familiarity yet are so fleeting that the listener could have trouble pinning them down...”

“Local band Project 62 promised their fans a show like no other, and they delivered. They rocked the Powerhouse last Saturday night for the launch of their second album, Mortal, and by the end of the night had the whole crowd chanting "sixty-two" and begging for more. The night also featured saxophone players from Toowoomba Grammar School and extra percussion from professional musician Jamie Nauss which added to the feel this was not just a show, but more of an experience. The crowd was more than receptive to the songs from the new album, with many fans rushing to the stage and moshing. "I knew we should have got a stage barrier" lead singer Jason Lawler said to the audience over the microphone on the night. With the lighting, the sound and the professionalism of all the bands that participated audiences could of been forgiven for thinking they were not seeing a local band, but rather one of international status.”

“Moving light show promotes new rock band FOR those who might have seen the fluorescent spider web-like light installation on the streets of Toowoomba last night, no you were not seeing things! The installation was being wheeled around by members of rock band Project 62 in the lead up to their album launch next weekend. Known as the "mortal chains", the boys will once again hit the streets tonight with the art work. Formed in 2007, the six-member rock band will release their second album Mortal at The Powerhouse next Saturday. Project 62 will be joined by local stable mates Mace and the Motor, Suicide Swans and Bart Thrupp. Tickets are $15 pre-sale or $20 at the door and doors open at 6pm. Visit oztix.com.au for tickets.”
