Point of Difference.
What sets you apart from the reast of the world = millions of other indie musician's /artists???
Yes thats right, millions of others you are competing with??
Sitting in your lounge in a pair of stubbie shorts and a can of beer in front of the low quality video recorder will not get you noticed by industry professionals, or FANS!
Think about a persona & a theme you would ideally like to be and portray. Then stick with it. Get family to take a picture or two of you, or again, collaborate.
Getting an image from the web and then adding your name to it, does nothing to make you stand out.
Be realistic when your making your POD.
If you are a country singer then look at as many country singers as you can, and see what they all do the same, then CHANGE it for your POD.
This go's for all genre's.
If you make yourself look futuristic in your pictures and profiles, then why would you make a video in a scruffy tshirt and cowboy boots??
*Be consistant & stick to a theme.

There is a big difference.
Have you had ANY voice training?? Or do you think you were born "gifted" as a singer. Dont kid yourself. YOU know if you can sing or not, and pretending or convincing oneself that you can reach arcopella heights, does not do you any favours.
I had voice traing a hundred years ago, but i never claim to be a "Singer". I 'know i cannot sing, i think we all do?
Hearing a wild riff and great drum solo is fab, but if the artist cannot sing then this is something an artist must consider when making a profile and theme and "ideology for ones persona".
If your a gifted guitar player then shout it from the rooftops, same if your electronic composer, but don't pretend to be a "Demis Roussos" when your not.

Great Article. I always believed that too. But the question is, "can you be too different?" In my years of dealing with booking agents and record labels, I come to realize that they are still always looking for a little bit of the same.
Maybe the next Beyonce, or the next Armin van Buuren and so on. Originality can bite you in the butt too. Labels, Clubs and bookers still like to put things into nice boxes with labels like "pop", "indie" , "trance" and so on.
The times that a group like Pink Floyd can come up with an album that does not fit in any label and sell millions may be over. Everybody is "playing it safe" these days.
So, am I on the wrong track, trying to come up with new styles and new combinations to make my music different from everybody else? Maybe, but I'm still tying. Like the song goes, "I got to be me...."
I hope there is some light at the end of the tunnel where record labels don't have to play it safe all the time to survive and some new, original music will surface again. Right now, everything is the same old, same old. We don't need another Lady GaGa.
