FIVE STARS for FORGIVEN

WOO HOO!! I got to listen to Los Lonely Boys' brand new album "FORGIVEN" last night for the first time (on vinyl no less, what a treat!)... I absolutely loved it! FIVE stars from me!! My early favorite track is "Make it Better" -- it evokes the sound I loved in the late 60s. It would fit right in to the Sgt. Pepper's album. It's more than just the tight, wonderful harmony -- it's the whole vibe of the song. Groovy man! But seriously, I think that is what really hits me about the whole record -- the vibe. Los Lonely Boy's concert approach to recording this album has paid off big time -- for the listener. Pure and simple, these are superb musicians recording when they are really FEELING it, and giving their hearts and souls to the music. There are many moments when you can just tell they are "in the zone" -- something fans love about Los Lonely Boys live, but which previously didn't come completely across in the studio. It is pretty magical for this listener, and the music carried me away from everything else along with it. "Hearts Won't Tell a Lie" is also a favorite of mine, and what a perfect way to open the album! Henry's guitar gets your attention from the first note and quickly explodes into a funky blues-rock groove. It's kick-ass. I'm already a huge fan of the first single "Staying With Me," which is the perfect summertime fall-in-love escape song. I bought it on I-Tunes when it first became available and have been dying to hear the rest of the album ever since. I have to say, I am NOT disappointed. Did I mention I loved it? I don't want to go on and on, so I'll just note one more that stood out for me: "Love Don't Care About Me." It's your basic "what went wrong" song, but it has a really beautiful melody line, complimented by descending diminished chords, and probably delivers the best vocal performance on the record. It is a beautiful song. So in a nutshell, "FORGIVEN" is one fine record from start to finish, and the best from Los Lonely Boys to date.
