Hardly Wait by Dan Godlin - Review

Just off his freshman debut album “Loving On Empty,” up and coming singer/songwriter Dan Godlin graduated from New York University in May 2012, and didn’t stop to enjoy life after college. Releasing hits such as "Did She Look" that reached #3 on iHeartRadio’s NEW! Channel and going on a limited tour, Dan headed to Los Angeles with the intent to expand his musical horizon.

“Hardly Wait” is Dan’s newest effort, co-written with renowned musician and songwriter Latch Key Kid. Get ready to be captured by the infectious beat and find yourself moving in time with the music. It seems we’ve just scratched the surface on some extreme talent.

Their idea with the song was very basic - to come up with a song that evokes excitement, happiness, freedom, passion, and new beginnings. Based upon Godlin’s past writing, you can easily see how this song is about love and wanting to take time to build the perfect relationship. And it does that successfully.

The songwriters know what we’re looking for right off. The desire to stop in our busy lives to give the one person we love our undivided attention. Taking the time out to get away, having “…all the stars we pass, shining for us.” We’re not just looking at the now, but the desire to have time on our side to build the life we want to live.

But as great music does, this song transcends. It is just as easily about a mother wanting to spend time with her daughter. Two best friends who haven’t seen each other in years. A busy family needing to get their priorities straight and put the family before everything else.

After spending over three months in Los Angeles working with a variety of songwriters and writing/recording a ton of new music, you should be eagerly awaiting what Dan Godlin has in store. Luckily, you won’t have to wait long. The highly anticipated new release -- a 5-song EP produced by Jim McGorman and Robb Vallier in LA is expected to be released in early 2013. The new EP has a completely different feel to the debut album, with lyrics that speak to a whole generation, and the music is very catchy too. Will "Hardly Wait" be a key part of the upcoming EP, or an amazing segue? Either way it’s got your attention.
