I've been moving around the music industry for a while now right? Been with the greats, the unknowns and the greatfully unknowns. One bit of advice I always gave my musicians was "never forget your fans" My reasoning behind this is they are the ones that go out and pull their friends to your shows even if their friends dont dig your genre. These are the ones that spend money on your merch because they hope it will get them just a little closer to shake your hand, take a picture with you or get a hug and an autograph.
Sadly a few of the major mainstream artists forgot this are begining to fade to black. While others, never forget to make time for fans even if they are drop tired and can barely keep their eyes open after a performance, they make it happen for their fans. These artists get street teams, and fan groups that flyer and get word of mouth and are constantly pushing the music and those artists that give nothing back for the hard work, they soon find themselves with nothing as well.
Is there a reason why some musicians pull away from the fans and think it was solely theirselves that got them where they are? Yes of course they had to have talent and be catchy or what have you but it started off with one fan who told someone and then word spread and little by little the musician(s) became known and begin to grow and then suddenly they dont care about the fans. Where and why did they lose sight of their purpose for music? Anyone have any input here?
