“There's a duality to Edmonton-based Owls By Nature that comes through when talking to bassist and vocalist Sean Hamilton: the group is both impulsive and careful, hasty and cautious. The desire to get things right—from the recording, to the mixing and mastering, to the cover art—has delayed the release of the group's debut album, entitled Backwater, for nearly a year. After starting work in April, the band has trucked along at a very measured pace, making sure everything is right before continuing, finally culminating in this weekend's release show.”
