“If you like this kind of thing–if you like big, BIG female vocals, and the Black Crowes, and old-school Tina Turner, and Foghat, and Grand Funk Railroad, and Joe Walsh, and old-school Linda Ronstadt–you will love this. You might love it more than any of the bands above!”
"Rock & Roll Voodoo Queen" features six sassy tracks delivered with plenty of guts, confidence, and attitude. Our favorite tracks are "Shoulda Been My Lover," "Nashville, TN," and "Rock and Roll Voodoo Queen." With a bit of luck this young lady could be playing to huge crowds in the near future...
“Funkyjenn sounds like she's having a top time as she belts out each line, while her entire backing band give things their all- no less than such grubby grooves deserves...”
“Bombastic classic South-of-the-Mason-Dixon boogie rawk delivered by a sly singing bombastic, classy saloon diva. No surprises on this, other than the surprising revelation that hardly anyone practices this kind of fundamentally near-perfect kind of rock ‘n’ roll these days. She’ll always be royal!”
“Voted Best Female Singer 2013”
“Top 50 Albums of 2013”
“If the Black Crowes had a female vocalist, this is what it could sound like. Not being bashful about cranking out hard, blues-edged rock and making no apologies about avoiding modern styles, the debut from this L.A. act flat out smokes.”
“There's no affectation here. This sounds like the 70s. She's a product of the 70s. This could easily be the gateway drug that let's the 70s come back and be in your face. Pretty much how rock sounded at the moment when Heart moved from halls to sheds, Funkyjenn and her gang simply know how to rock, righteously. Fun stuff that could fuel an EDM/show gaze backlash all by itself.”
“5 out of 5 stars! Rock and Roll Voodoo Queen is a virtually flawless debut for Funkyjenn. As mentioned earlier, the cover art could draw comparisons to Stevie Nicks and the gypsy or witch persona she had adopted. Funkyjenn’s voice and style is far different than Nicks, and it’s interesting that the same differences can be seen in a voodoo queen versus a gypsy queen. Where the gypsy persona is seen as mystical and enchanting, voodoo is aggressive with a bit of menace and grit. Funkyjenn captures that effortlessly. All bow down to the Voodoo Queen.”
“That voice is beyond her years, reaching back to the time of Janis Joplin as well as the heyday for sirens like Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner. That voice is impossible to ignore, and it’s only a matter of time before her name is mentioned in the same breath as those vocalists that she drew so much inspiration from.”
“Are you ready to rock? Rock & Roll Voodoo Queen is an explosive, lusty guitar driven ride through female fronted classic rock terrain previously navigated by the likes of Heart and Lydia Pense. Bursting with attitude, personality, sex appeal and a big voice, Funkyjenn's six track E.P. proves that down home rock and soul is alive and well in 2013.”
“Funkyjenn has talent in spades and treats us to it to great effect on her debut, Rock and Roll Voodoo Queen. Swinging from rock and blues to soul, Rock and Roll Voodoo Queen is a tour through all that is good and holy in American music. This is as visceral and fun as music is going to get.”
“When Funkyjenn sings ballads she comes off a little like another soul icon, Etta James. On both “Outta Sight Outta Mind” and “Butterflies Bleed,” she can be heard taking her time, milking every word for all the emotion they’re worth, and really selling the song. “Outta Sight Outta Mind” lopes to a sparse groove, with an instrumental backing that brings to mind classic Otis Redding ballads. However, Funkyjenn has a much smoother singing voice than Redding had.”
“Funkyjenn’s music is a pure Rock n Soul time warp plucked from the past and planted in the present, with spell bounding powerful vocals and hard rockin’ veterans “Rock And Roll Voodoo Queen” boogies, bops, thrills and gets down and dirty with six all out pedal to the metal rockers.”
