“AUGUST 26, 2019Meet Ethemadassassin VoyageLA StaffVOYAGELA STAFF SHARE TWEET PIN Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethemadassassin. Ethemadassassin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far. I first started out in this music thing wanting to be a dj. I thought the dj was the coolest dude onstage because I could see how he was in control of the crowd. Of course, dj equipment costs a lot of money and my mom couldn’t afford it. The next best thing (which was most affordable) was writing lyrics because pen and paper was much cheaper… So at 12 years old, I began putting my pen to the pad. I was raised in North Carolina (with a healthy dose of the wrong side of the tracks of New Jersey and Ohio in my background during my formative and teen years) during the crack epidemic, so my writing style and subject matter reflects those experiences. So, if you really want to know ME, just listen to my music. My whole life is in”

“The track is the 3rd single off of the LA-based rapper’s brand new EP Bear Handz: Magmatic.”

“In my army, I’m a controller, a General n!gga. In your army, you’re a soldier, a general n!gga… We got some new ethemadassassin for ya. This “Animal Instinct” with Dawn Gun on there talking hella sh!t to fill the spaces and keep sh!t moving rugged! The single is off the “Bear Handz Pt. 1: Magmatic” EP (due out May 14, 2018). The EP is produced by QuakeMobb, out of Raleigh, North Carolina. “Animal Instinct” is a street homage to Redman and Hurricane G songs from the Golden Era, when Hurricane G would helm the hook with her own brand of in-your-face bravado and verbal middle fingers, while Redman backed up all her talking with hardbody, smack you in the face, bars.”

“Chase March interviews hip-hop artist ethemadassassin and plays some of his great music. They talk about swearing in hip-hop, how cities get placed on the map and what that means, and how the rap game is no longer the realm of the young. Press play to be educated and entertained.”

“A head of his single release ‘H.T.C‘ ethemadassassin caught with HTF for an exclusive interview. E gave us an inside view into the rappers lifestyle whilst also talking about his new music and what he thinks of current music. HTF: Yo, Thanks for spending some time with us at HTF – how’s it going? E: Thanks for having me. everything’s cool, just gearing up for my album release. HTF: So first thing which strikes me is your name, where did it come from and what does the “E” stand for? E: My name was given to me back in college by an old friend, The One Sun Lion Ra. Back in college, dudes would have multiple, massive, all-day ciphers. dudes would miss class just to get high and drunk and rhyme all day. Ra was always holding court as like THE chief emcee and beatbox. I would sometimes listen, and then eventually I would join in. the name came from the difference between me and the other emcees. The other emcees wanted to just rhyme the entire fucking day and some wouldn’”

“Coming live from North Carolina is rapper ethemadassassin. Although he has been active since the ‘80s, E has spent a majority of the time in the underground circuit. He offers Soul on Fire as his 3rd solo album and as another step in his long career. His experience shows in his raps as he speaks on his rocky past and lessons learned from his successes and failures. He has been with music and the streets for a long time and his maturity comes across loud and clear. Ethemadassassin is an artist with a mature voice and has plenty of tracks to look out for on this album. ‘What it’s Supposed to be’ is my favorite track on this album as it has some of the best lyrics of madassassin married with a great hook and even better beat from Japanese producer Kyo Itachi. It serves as the best example of the eye for grade A sound that E actively tries to put forth. ‘80s and 90s’ is creative as E runs down all of the popular styles and culture that he witnessed and grew up on. ‘Fight Mu”

“Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina - home of "American Gangster" Frank Lucas - ethemadassassin once again brings his own firebrand hip hop to the table with his 3rd solo album "Soul on Fire" Its the first since "Tomorrow Never Comes" in 2008 which included the single "Walk My Shoes", the video for which was playlisted by the UK's MTV Base and Flava TV, and which also reached Number 3 in the Rap Networks Chart. His releases always leave their mark, with the 2004 debut album "Proverbs" topping the Rap Attack Lives chart, the longest running College Rap Radio network in the United States. Like a President's term in office, the 4 years of hard work are up and a new album delivered ready for judgement. Since the release of "Tomorrow Never Comes" he has swapped coasts, moving to Los Angeles, California to team up with his old Greensboro sparring partner Veteran Eye to form Veteran Assassins. As a group they have toured the west coast with Project Blowed's Kandi Cole and released”

““One thing about rappers is they don’t wanna shut the f—k up,” I’m told by LA rapper Ethemadassassin. Before you get excited, this is not a subliminal please pass the mic aimed at an unnamed emcee, it’s an explanation of how he earned the moniker that rivals Mississippi in the have I used enough S’s? stakes. Whereas some guys would be locked in cyphers from sun up till sun down, a busy E would drop something quick and leave. “A friend of mine was like ‘that’s like some assassin shit’ and I was like ‘what you mean?’ and he said ‘you get in there and give them one bullet and then you out.’” The same friend also pointed out how mad E looked all the time. The rest as they say… This of course was all a long time ago. By his own admission E is not your “average new young rapper”. He took to the art form over twenty years ago after his original plan for being a DJ was scuppered. “Being a DJ you got to have turntables. It cost money for turntables and”

“Ethemadassassin has dropped his third solo album. We know his soul is on fire, but can the same be said of the album? In a bid to bear his soul, E delivers a 13 track project that touches on a variety of subjects such as growing up in the crack era, 80s & 90s; being addicted to ‘the life’, Can’t Get Enough; and an ode to his mother, Letter To Mommy. Coupled with the rather aptly titled tracks Sparta and Fight Music, you get a body of work that doesn’t stray too far away from the typical conventions of street music. E curates beats from producers like SciFi Stu, Kyo Itachi, Wonder Boy and Gav Beats resulting in crazy guitar riffs, soulful vocal samples and jazzy piano keys being used as the soundtrack for a joyride through the mind of a veteran emcee. Bearing in mind that Ethemadassassin has ties to North Carolina, New Jersey and most recently LA, the project doesn’t sound anchored to any particular geographical region, but it does ooze the 90s giving it the potential to sou”

Having earned a reputation as a fierce rap battle MC, E also became respected for his representation of the world around him in his rhymes. Living in Henderson NC at the time with two major highways running through it, he witnessed a massive influx of drugs dealers & hustlers to the town with inevitable consequences for the community. “Expectations will always be high when a long-standing emcee like ethemadassasin shares a sentimentally entitled album, ‘Soul on Fire,’ which is highly unusual in the hip-hop world. However, ethemadassasin, lives up to regal standards as set by his previous releases such as, ‘Proverbs’ and ‘ Tomorrow Never Comes’ both dealing with the chaotic lifestyle lived by this Golden Era emcee. ‘Soul on Fire,’ has different approach and reads as the finale to his previous albums and feels really reflective, as if he is tying up loose ends, and is described by the man himself as, “the latest chapter in the book of my life.” He seamlessly pays homage to the boom-bap era of hip-hop but skilfully adds his own twist of making it contemporary, which can be a hard rope to walk. Trademarked for his rough, raw and real imagery that he creates through his lyricism, he can having you laughing and aghast in space of seconds: “I’m not the example of living, I’m the spectacle/ My nig”

“ For more than a decade now, ethemadassassin has lived up to his stage name, using a deadly arsenal of complex lyrics and a rapid-fire flow to murder tracks and eliminate the competition. Now in his mid 30s and residing in Greensboro, E has emerged as one of the most respected figures in the North Carolina underground hip hop scene. And while commercial success and national accIaim may have proven to be ellusive, E is back on his grind this summer with a new full-length concept album and a slew of dope videos. We recently sat down with the mad assassin who spoke candidly about his legacy in the game, the struggles of being an unsigned artist and the current state of North Carolina hip hop.
