“Surrealism and psychedelia combine to describe an intriguing form of magick on Another De Sade’s “The Allusionist.” That is, “magick” in the sense of “intentional change,” not card tricks. The mini-album is a semi-autobiographical account of the band’s journey to find knowledge and truth – with all of the resulting challenges, rewards, and “False Summits” described along the way. Thoughtful lyrics mesh with melodic hooks, infectious rhythms, mosh-inducing power chords, and gorgeous arpeggios to take the listener on an excursion that becomes more rewarding with each listen. Truth be told, this six-song album is no playful trip through a meadow of daisies and butterflies. Nor would one expect that from a band called Another De Sade. In fact, this is about traveling in the original sense of that word, derived from the Old French “travail” meaning “to work.” This album will both challenge and reward the listener, as all great works should. The EP begins with ”

“Another De Sade is a melodic progressive rock group from Austin, Texas. I often worry about prog rock, but the emphasis on melodic is important, and keeps musical elements at the forefront. Some of the influences listed include Coheed and Cambria and Circa Survive. This makes sense given the sense of drama to the music. The band is thinking epically while staying grounded. Although they only have two tracks available, there are a number of live dates listed, which is a good sign.”

“The revelry continued with a set from alt-prog titans Another de Sade. Not since Gregor Samsa has shape-shifting been this much fun. This quartet moved deftly through multiple musical genres within a single song (within a single verse!) and the crowd rocked along. From the gothic glory of “Echino” to the prog-brilliance of “False Summit,” band members Mark Schroth, Kibler Hufstedler, Mance Fine, and Greg Haberek channeled their inner Lokis. And the crowd was pleased.”
