HANGFIRE / Press

“Hangfire went down a storm at Hard Rock Hell at the end of last year and their debut is outstanding, it's bluesy, hard rocking, abounding with melodic grooves and soul. Hailing from South Wales and with a pedigree of established musicians in the band, such as ex Tigertailz, October Country, The Happening and Desecration making up the band you have one hell of a line up and 'Shoot The Crow' ticks all the boxes. If you are like me, at times it’s just nice to step down a gear from the insanity of Metal and take a few hours out and listen to some Hard Rock! Well Hangfire are your band. We have eleven tracks of boogying, emotionally charged tracks here. 'Adrenalize' kicks the proceedings off and is a strong opener, pumping the blood through your veins. 'For Crying Out Loud' is one of my favourites on here, in fact I had both the album opener and 'For Crying Out Loud' on continuous repeat on my iPod.”

“I have literally driven everyone mad with this album, playing songs from it via my phone at every almost every gathering.”

“Just to keep that feelgood momentum on a high Hangfire pull out all the stops for their opening slot on the bill, kicking things off in true classic rock style with tracks from their acclaimed album, 'Shoot The Crow'. After rattling the fuzz out of hundreds of heads at this early hour with opener 'Adrenalise', 'Bodies' and the bass heavy slant of 'Fire In The Hole' make the ground around us shake as the guys power through a set filled with songs from an album that, already, has secured them the services of quite the band of committed followers. The guys conclude their business with latest single, the Hangfire anthem 'For Crying Out Loud', which is received with thanks by a crowd desperate to see this quickly-rising classic rock mob live at every available opportunity. Job done guys, now let's see you out on another UK tour soon, eh?!”

“Cool, classy and musically brilliant. If you're looking for the next big classic rock band then look no further than the immense classic rock sound of Hangfire”

“ Having put the hours and miles in since the last time I saw them, Hangfire have certainly honed their sound and stagecraft into a tight fist of a set. As guitarist Lee 'Lizzy' Evans throws out riffs, drummer Matt Blakout sticks and bassist Bob Goo shapes, frontman Matt Rhead towers over the assembled throng, more confident and at ease with every show.”

“It kicks off impressively with 'Adrenalize', 'For Crying Out Loud' and 'Bodies', each one with powerful guitars, a throaty roar and an insistent chorus, and each one an obvious single choice. Further on you get plenty of light and shade, the bluesy 'Slip Away' building from serene balladry into a powerhouse and 'Shadows Fall' being equal parts gentle and bombastic. The title track has an unconventional vocal melody and a modern riff, whilst 'Drop The Bomb' is similarly updated but lacks the big choral hook. The highlights are the great, swaggering blues-rocker 'Faith In Me', the moody 'Fire In The Hole'; with its Doors-like atmospheric verse and nice backing vocals, and the touching power ballad 'Dead Man Walking'; so good they did two versions, one acoustic, one not. ”

“Getting things started with a shot of "Adrenalise" it's clear that CD is gonna groove big time. Some solid driving chords lead into a swirling opening that grabs attention. Lizzy's solo stamps an instant identity on the Hangfire brand, a group not afraid to wear their love of intricate guitar work and solos on their sleeves. ”

“As a whole the album is a cherry picked concoction of the best bits of the last 30 years of rock, thrown in a blender and served up as this very moreish cocktail; Take one 80’s metal solo, throw in a nu metal breakdown, add a dash of grunge groove and serve on the rocks – a must listen for 2012”

“Hangfire haven’t just produced a well put together album here, they’ve produced an album which is going to leave you wanting more, leave you breathless and renew your sense of belief in the live music scene. There’s no over production here, there’s no over the top effects – there’s simply an accomplished band doing what they do and doing it damned well! All I’m really left with is more please, lots and lots more please! ”

“I was looking forward to hearing this band because I have been hearing a lot about them. It’s great catchy AOR type rock with very good vocals.”

“This debut album from this Welsh quartet is literally rammed to the very last groove with big, ballsy, romper-stomper riffs, instantly memorable hooks, melodies and choruses – and enough attitude to refloat the Titanic.”

“Hangfire’s album ‘Shoot the Crow’ has been getting a lot of airplay at TBFM, and its easy to see why. They are a talented Welsh heavy blues rock band, with some radio friendly tunes.”

“Hang Fire - 'For Crying Out Loud', Single Remarkably tightly integrated heavy rock, mega horse power thundering along on tightly held reins, impeccably capturing spirit of ‘70’s in well cherished riffs, hooks, chord progressions, delivered by chugging bass, driving guitar, pounding drums and passionately impassioned voice. Apart from musical integrity, the difference here is extraordinarily dextrous guitar, shining in solos and darkly seductive vocal depth, Motorhead touched by Rush, tantalising temptation. ”

“Having been a huge fan of blues orientated rock for many of years. This album is right up my alley. If you are a fan of superb tonality (voice and sound) and perfect pitched soloing to the standards of Joe Banamassa, Gary Moore, Tony Iommi, aggressive and leading vocal lines, a heart pounding bass line and drums to get your head rocking then this is most definitely for you. Brilliant! ”

“Next to hit the stage was HangFire, who have just finished recording their new album 'Shoot The Crow'”

“For the first time in two decades glam legends Wrathchild treated Welsh fans to a couple of dates in the land of song. Gaz E strutted the short distance to the first of these shows to see a rejuvenated band, ably supported by (soon to be) local legends Hangfire and Spanish sleazesters Stop Stop. Read on for the lowdown.....”

“Welcome to Matt Phelps Monday here on Über Röck! Spit roasting the ÜR front page today with his double-ender of rock goodness, Matt was the neutral chosen to get to grips with the new album from Hangfire, the band with former Tigertailz drummer Matt Blakout bringing up the rear. Read on for his cultured thoughts on 'Shoot The Crow'.......”

“We featured Hang Fire a while back, so when they got in touch about their new video for For Crying Out Loud, we were pretty excited. What no one had told us before though, was that guitarist Lizzie Lee Evans from the band, is totally blind, yet writes all of the songs for the band. Now, the stuff Hang Fire come up with is damned good compared to most bands, but when you consider that their guitarist is playing completely blind, this adds a whole new take on things, and something they should well be proud of. Scheduled to be playing dates with the mighty Marseille and Wrathchild (amongst others) later on this year, I figured it was only right I check out what the new video was like!”

“Blind rocker Lizzie aiming for big time with Hangfire”

“When my Uber Rock colleague Matt Blakout fell off the Tigertailz stage and into the Hangfire line up I found myself with a new band to follow. Blakout's new boyz have been building up a steady following over the last few years and with their long awaited album 'Shoot The Crow' finally about to see release I thought now would be the perfect time to catch up with lead guitarist and founder member Lee "Lizzy" Evans for the lowdown on the Welsh four piece. Read on for '...Crow' based info and a bit of Hangfire history...”

“Hangfire, the Southern Rock influenced Welsh outfit that feature former Tigertailz drummer Matt Blakout on stick twirling/dropping duties, have released a video teaser of what to expect from their forthcoming album. 'For Crying Out Loud' is taken from the new album, 'Shoot The Crow', which is slated for release in the Spring. The video was filmed in October 2011 at Cardiff's famous Clwb Ifor Bach. ”

“Southern Welsh rockers Hangfire have released the second single from the upcoming album 'Shoot The Crow'. The new single "For Crying Out Loud" follows the 2010 debut of "Bodies" -- both tracks will appear on the delayed album 'Shoot The Crow', whixh is now slated to drop on January 30th.”
